The Department of Advanced Computing Sciences (DACS), Faculty of Science and Engineering, at Maastricht University is seeking an Assistant Professor in Computer Systems with a focus on Security.

  • Our goal: Strengthen our expertise in secure computer systems through cutting‑edge research and high‑quality education.
  • Your colleagues: An international team of researchers and educators within the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences.

In this role, your research and teaching will strengthen our expertise in the design, implementation, and analysis of secure computer systems. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, operating systems, distributed systems, trusted execution environments, cloud computing, and their related security aspects.

As our new colleague, you will actively contribute to the department’s research profile and play an important role in our Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Computer Science. The position offers a balanced research‑teaching load and provides strong opportunities for mentorship and collaboration across Maastricht University and its research institutes.

  • Scientifically grounded – You hold a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field.
  • Research-driven – You have a strong research record, evidenced by publications in top computer systems and security venues.

  • Academically experienced – Preferably, you have at least 2 years of post-PhD experience in an academic environment.
  • Committed to education – You value high-quality, inclusive teaching and dedicated student supervision.
  • Collaborative and ambitious – You enjoy interdisciplinary collaboration and are motivated to acquire competitive research funding.
What we offer

At Maastricht University, you’ll work in an international, open, and engaged environment. We offer:

  • A 18-month contract with the prospect of a permanent contract based on mutual satisfaction.
  • A gross monthly salary between €4.728,00 and €6.433,00 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week). 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.

Department of Advanced Computing Sciences

The Department of Advanced Computing Sciences is Maastricht University’s largest and oldest department broadly covering the fields of artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, mathematics and robotics. Over 100 researchers work and study in the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences, whose roots trace back to 1987. The department’s staff teaches approximately 1,350 bachelor’s and master’s students in 4 specialized study programmes.
