Mercor is currently hiring an Open Source Contributor (Engineering – Multiple Languages) on behalf of a leading AI lab. This is a high-impact role ideal for engineers with strong programming fundamentals and a proven track record of meaningful contributions to major open-source projects.
1. Role OverviewYou will collaborate with research and engineering teams to design engineering evaluations, develop test frameworks, and analyze system performance across real-world coding scenarios. Your work will directly influence next-generation AI systems by helping benchmark, stress-test, and improve model capabilities across major programming languages.
This is a flexible, remote, project-based opportunity for highly experienced open-source contributors.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop evaluations for a wide range of coding tasks across Python, Java, C, JavaScript, Type Script , and related ecosystems.
Create comprehensive test cases to accurately measure system performance in practical engineering contexts.
Analyze real-world system behavior to identify weaknesses, edge cases, and improvement opportunities.
Communicate results clearly to research teams to support ongoing model development.
Contribute to workflows within distributed, asynchronous engineering teams.
Strong Git Hub (or similar) presence with frequent, high-quality open-source contributions in the last 12 months.
Expertise in at least one major language:
Python, Java, C, JavaScript, or Type Script .Deep knowledge of commonly used libraries, frameworks, and tool chains in your primary language(s).
Strong understanding of software architecture, clean design principles, and performance optimization.
Experience collaborating in open-source communities and distributed development environments.
Ability to independently identify meaningful areas for contribution and deliver improvements with minimal supervision.
Comfortable with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and open-source governance processes.
