Mercor is hiring on behalf of a leading AI lab for an experienced Backend & Dev Ops Engineer to design, build, and scale microservices‑based infrastructure powering next‑generation AI systems. This role blends backend engineering, Dev Ops, and distributed systems architecture, supporting research and engineering teams in delivering production‑grade, scalable infrastructure.
1. Role OverviewThe Backend & Dev Ops Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining high‑performance, distributed backend systems and automated infrastructure. You will work on microservices, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes environments, and cloud orchestration to ensure reliability, scalability, and security across the AI lab’s core systems.
This is a remote, project‑based opportunity ideal for engineers experienced in modern cloud‑native systems and automation.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesArchitect and develop high‑performance, fault‑tolerant microservices.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and infrastructure‑as‑code.
Manage Kubernetes clusters, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), and container orchestration.
Implement monitoring, observability, and security best practices.
Collaborate with backend and AI teams to optimize performance and reliability.
Continuously improve automation, deployment speed, and operational efficiency.
3+ years of experience in backend engineering and/or Dev Ops roles.
Strong understanding of microservices architecture and API design.
Proficiency in Go

, Node.js
, or Java
.Hands‑on experience with Docker
, Kubernetes
, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP).Familiarity with Terraform
, Helm
, ArgoCD
, or Git Hub Actions
.Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL
