Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: WordPress Engineer Remote)
This position is open to applicants in Canada.

Kanopi Studios is a Design, Development & Support Agency with a fully distributed team of people who are experts in Drupal & Word Press.

Our clients are mission-driven — and so are we. We design, build, and support websites that help their missions thrive.

We believe the people behind the work matter just as much as the work itself. That’s why we’re deeply committed to supporting our team’s growth, wellbeing, and success. When our people thrive, our clients do too — and together, we build a web that works better for everyone.

As Kanopi continues to grow, we’re excited to welcome a new Word Press Engineer to our team.

About the Role

As a Word Press Engineer at Kanopi Studios, you will build, maintain, and enhance Word Press websites that help our clients achieve their goals. You will collaborate closely with project managers, technical leads, designers, and other engineers to deliver performant, secure, and accessible digital experiences. You’ll balance independent problem-solving with active team communication, writing clean, well-documented code that adheres to Kanopi’s best practices and quality standards.

Requirements

Your typical work week might include:

  • Developing and supporting a wide variety of custom Word Press sites.
  • Building themes, plugins, and Gutenberg blocks (React/ACF).
  • Creating templates and patterns that support Full Site Editing (FSE).
  • Writing clean, maintainable, and performant PHP, JavaScript (React), and CSS/Sass.
  • Managing site configuration, updates, and technical support tickets.
  • Triaging and debugging unfamiliar Word Press sites quickly and effectively.
  • Using modern workflows such as Git flow, Composer, Docker, Git Hub Actions, and CI/CD pipelines to manage deployments.
  • Participating in peer code reviews and contributing to shared Kanopi libraries and documentation.
  • Collaborating on technical design of new features and integrations.
  • Communicating proactively and collaborating on problem-solving while maintaining a supportive, inclusive work style.
  • Effectively prioritizing tasks across projects and clients while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
About the compensation and work requirements

This is a full-time position. The starting salary for this role will fall within the range of $66,100.00 - $81,439.00 - the range is broad, but it is commensurate with experience, aligned with current members of our team with similar experience, and may shift a bit depending on your geographic location. This is a 100% remote role, but you must live and be able to work in the US or Canada.

Now,

let's talk about you!

We're looking for candidates who have experience with the following:

  • 3+ years of professional Word Press development experience, including custom themes, plugins, and Gutenberg block development (ACF).
  • Strong understanding of modern Word Press architecture (CPTs, REST API, taxonomies, hooks/filters) and Full Site Editing (FSE) concepts, including block patterns, templates, and theme.json configuration.
  • Proficient with React for Gutenberg blocks; experience with Next.js or headless Word Press implementations is a plus.
  • Awareness of performance, security, accessibility (WCAG 2.2), SEO, and basic server administration best practices.
  • Experience with modern development workflows (Composer, Docker, Git Hub Actions, CI/CD, and multi-environment setups).
  • Experience working in Word Press VIP, WPEngine, or Pantheon environments.
  • Experience working within a digital agency or multi-client environment.
  • Familiarity with different project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
  • Experience identifying and surfacing potential project risks early.
  • Strong, inclusive, and thoughtful interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.

At Kanopi, we know that a diverse team makes us stronger, more creative, and more effective. We enthusiastically welcome applicants of all backgrounds, and we strongly encourage people of color, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, and those from other underrepresented communities to apply.
