Overview

Image

X has an immediate opportunity for an Senior level UX Design Consultant with a passion for user testing, user research and information architecture. Image

X is a full-service web agency where innovation and learning are prized and everyone’s voice is heard. Your colleagues are passionate about creating digital experiences that people love and deliver results.

This is a freelance remote position (~20 hours/week; variable during business hours based on project requirements) with plenty of opportunities to grow with an industry-leading web development agency that values work/life balance.

About You

You’re a senior UX consultant who thrives in smart, collaborative teams and lights up at a good challenge. You command a room—facilitating with clarity, telling the story behind your decisions, and turning ambiguity into crisp next steps across PM, Engineering, Design, and Content. You wield AI as a responsible force-multiplier—boosting pace and polish without compromising quality, privacy, or ethics.

About the Position

We’re adding a Senior UX Consultant who loves the front line—leading discovery, shaping IA/UX, and delivering accessible, measurable design outcomes for clients. You’re a curious, always-evolving pro who tracks digital trends (and uses AI responsibly
) and loves sharing what you learn with the team. If you thrive in a consultative, client-facing role and manage your work like a champ, you’ll fit right in.

As a UX Design Consultant, you will…

Partner with clients and internal stakeholders to uncover goals and user needs, then translate them into clear, decision-ready artifacts. You’ll plan and run user research, develop personas, user flows, and journey maps, and use these to define a coherent information architecture. You’ll produce sitemaps, wireframes, and prototypes that make navigation intuitive, content easy to find, and scope risks visible early.

You’ll work closely with the Director of Digital Strategy on content audits, metadata, and taxonomies to improve discoverability and SEO. You’ll monitor performance with web analytics, evaluate clients’ information architecture over time, and recommend targeted enhancements that measurably improve the user experience.

Across delivery, you’ll guide cross-functional teams—PM, Development, Designers, BAs, and Content—through design reviews and iterative improvements, aligning IA and UX decisions with visual design and business objectives while keeping accessibility and best practices front and center.

You Need
  • Discovery facilitation: Proven ability to lead discovery/prioritization/user-testing sessions, present persuasively to executives, and handle live Q&A.
  • Stakeholder alignment: Demonstrated success collaborating with clients and cross-functional partners to translate business goals, target audiences, and user needs into IA decisions.
  • User research: Hands-on experience planning, running, and synthesizing interviews and usability tests into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Core UX artifacts: Track record producing personas, user flows, and journey maps that guide structure, content, and scope.
  • Information architecture: Expertise creating and maintaining navigation, sitemaps, taxonomy/labeling, plus wireframes and interactive prototypes; as well as adapting work based on evidence (e.g., card/tree testing).
  • Content partnership: Experience conducting content audits/gap analyses and aligning IA with visual design and content strategy alongside Designers, BAs, and Content.
  • Accessibility & best practices: Applies current IA/UX standards (incl. WCAG considerations) and drives measurable improvements.
  • Responsible AI in UX: Practical use of AI to accelerate research synthesis, design exploration, and feedback analysis—while upholding privacy, consent, and anonymization and optimizing workflows/budgets.
  • Tool proficiency: Advanced with Figma (incl. Fig Jam), Optimal Workshop Suite, and Google Docs/Sheets/Slides (or equivalents).
Bonus
  • Agency/consultancy background:
Experience operating in fast-paced, multi-client environments.
  • Client website delivery:
Experience building websites for clients end to end (e.g., IA/UX for CMS-driven sites), collaborating…
