Canada-Wide Freelance Interpreter (English/Otjiherero) – MCIS Language Solutions

As a freelance interpreter, you will provide essential spoken interpretation services in various community settings, such as hospitals, police stations, tribunal hearings, schools, and more. Your primary role is to facilitate clear and accurate communication between English and Otjiherero speakers, ensuring individuals with limited language proficiency have access to vital services.

• Interpretation:
  Provide accurate, clear, and professional interpretation between English and Otjiherero in community settings, including high-pressure environments such as healthcare and legal contexts.
• Cultural Sensitivity:
  Demonstrate cultural awareness, faithfully conveying meaning and tone while respecting cultural nuances.
• Reading and Oral Translation:
  Read and orally translate written materials as needed, including forms and documents, with precision and clarity.
• Facilitating Access to Services:
  Help vulnerable populations navigate complex systems in healthcare, law enforcement, and social services.
• Travel:
  Travel to assignment locations as required using available transportation; assignments may vary in location and time.
• Remote Assignments:
  Handle over-the-phone or video interpretation as needed, including remote work where applicable.
• Professionalism and Confidentiality:
  Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive contexts.

• Fluency in English and Otjiherero (written and spoken) is required.
• Strong reading proficiency to interpret written documents into clear oral translations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, empathy, patience, and a commitment to service.
• Ability to travel to different locations; reliable transportation.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

• Training: MCIS provides a free online training module for new interpreters, which must be completed before starting assignments.
• Experienced Interpreters:
  Applications are welcome from interpreters who have been tested and certified in community interpreting.

• Job Type: Part-time, Casual, Freelance
• Salary: CA $20.00 to CA $25.00 per hour (based on experience and assignment type)
