As a freelance interpreter with MCIS Language Solutions, you will provide essential spoken interpretation services in various community settings such as hospitals, police stations, tribunal hearings, schools, and more. Your primary role is to facilitate clear and accurate communication between English and Chichewa (Chewa) speakers, ensuring individuals with limited language proficiency have access to vital services.

• Interpretation:
  Provide accurate, clear, and professional interpretation between English and Chichewa in community settings, including high‑pressure environments such as healthcare and legal situations.
• Cultural Sensitivity:
  Demonstrate cultural awareness to faithfully convey meaning and tone.
• Reading and Oral Translation:
  Read and translate written materials such as application forms, medical records, and legal documents into precise oral translations.
• Facilitating Access to Services:
  Help vulnerable populations navigate complex systems (healthcare, law enforcement, social services).
• Travel:
  Access assignment locations via car, public transportation, or other means; assignments vary in location and time.
• Remote Assignments:
  Handle over‑the‑phone or video interpretation assignments from home when applicable.
• Professionalism and Confidentiality:
  Maintain high professionalism and confidentiality while interpreting sensitive information.

• Fluency in English and Chichewa (both written and spoken).
• Strong reading proficiency for accurate oral translation of written documents.
• Excellent interpersonal skills: empathy, patience, commitment to service, and ability to build rapport with diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Transportation:
  Ability to travel to various locations as needed.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

• Free online training module for new interpreters, must be completed before starting.
• Experienced interpreters with community interpreting certification are welcomed and highly valued.

Job Type: Part‑time, Casual, Freelance

Salary: CA $20.00 to CA $25.00 per hour (based on experience and assignment type)
