Position: Freelance Interpreter (English/Lao)

Organization: MCIS Language Solutions

• Provide accurate, clear, and professional interpretation between English and Lao in community settings, including healthcare, police stations, tribunals, schools, and more.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and accurately convey meaning and tone while respecting cultural nuances.
• Read and orally translate written materials such as application forms, medical records, and legal documents.
• Support vulnerable populations by breaking down linguistic barriers in critical interactions.
• Travel to assignment locations as required; flexible transportation is necessary.
• Handle over‑the‑phone or video interpretation assignments; remote work is possible.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality during sensitive interpretations.

• Fluency in English and Lao (written and spoken).
• Strong reading proficiency for accurate oral translation.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy, patience, and a service‑oriented attitude.
• Reliable transportation to reach assignment locations.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

• New interpreters receive a free online training module – must complete before starting work.
• Experienced interpreters who are tested and certified in community interpreting are encouraged to apply.

Job Type: Part‑time, Casual, Freelance

Salary: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour (based on experience and assignment type)
