About the job Labour Lawyer - Fully Remote position
Our client, Achkar Law, is a Toronto-based law firm helping employers in the fields of labour law, employment law, and corporate commercial litigation. We counsel Canadian employers across industries on everything from day-to-day workplace issues and litigation, to complex union certification and decertification proceedings before the Ontario Labour Relations Board and other tribunals.
As a Labor and Business Litigation Associate, you should have some years of experience handling labour and business litigation matters, including but not limited to employment disputes, contract disputes, and business torts.
Key Responsibilities- Certification Proceedings – Lead and manage union certification and decertification applications before the OLRB and comparable provincial tribunals.
- Strategic Advisory – Counsel clients on organizing campaigns, neutrality agreements, card‑check processes, and decertification strategies.
- Litigation & Advocacy – Draft applications, pleadings, and briefs; appear as advocate at hearings and mediations; negotiate settlements.
- Policy & Communications – Draft or review collective agreement language, workplace policies, and client‑facing communications related to certification matters.
- Client Service – Serve as primary liaison to in‑house HR and legal teams, delivering clear roadmaps to mitigate legal risk during union drives.
- Cross‑Practice Collaboration – Work with colleagues in employment standards, human rights, and occupational health & safety to provide integrated advice.
- JD or equivalent, called to the Ontario bar.
- 36 years of employer‑side labour law experience, with a proven track record in certification/decertification matters.
- Demonstrated success at the OLRB or similar tribunals (Ontario, BC, Alberta, etc.).
- In‑depth knowledge of the Canada Labour Code, Ontario Labour Relations Act, and related statutes.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple files, meet tight deadlines, and deliver pragmatic, business‑focused solutions.
