Job Description

Wood Transmission & Distribution Ltd are recruiting for an accomplished Senior Operations Manager to manage our EHV Cabling Projects across Scotland.

We will require demonstrable knowledge & experience in tendering, developing, managing and delivering large‑scale EHV cable projects, safely to time and to budget working with Cabling Transmission and Distribution Network Operators such as SSE. Due to the growth trajectory within our cabling division, this position will be across the whole of Scotland, predominantly in the Highlands initially.

Responsibilities Operational Delivery
  • P & L responsibility with associated commercial and financial accountability including revenue delivery, margin and overhead management, budget and forecast determination and attainment, risk and opportunity reviews, cost controls, accounts payable/billing and cash collection.
  • Ownership of HSSEA matters across assigned area: ensure HSSEA values are delivered and adhered to at all times, proactively leading and demonstrating safety behavioural values. Lead and focus the team to attain all HSE plans, supporting continuous improvement and ensuring legislative compliance.
  • Provides tactical direction to operational delivery team(s) in order to meet business plan goal.
  • Ensures robust business continuity and disaster recovery plans are in place.
  • Carries out significant operational administrative functions, staffing activities and managing day‑to‑day employee relations and operational issues.
  • With direction and within set parameters, establishes annual business goals and strategies and prepares business plan for assigned location.
  • Serves as consultant or project manager as appropriate.
  • Ensures financial, safety and quality controls and compliance to company policies.
  • Maintain operational integrity and excellence, ensuring robust governance, subcontractor management and performance reporting. Work with leadership and peers to improve delivery performance and maximise delivery opportunities throughout wider business.
  • Establish and implement policies, and ensure appropriate governance mechanisms for continuous monitoring of their proper implementation.
  • Ensure our people and the worksites at which they operate are safe and well managed.
  • Support resolution of any legal claims in collaboration with legal and other relevant functions.
  • Pursue and develop opportunities for innovation, such as digitalisation and technology use, work share and high value engineering centres, to bring value to Wood and customer.
  • Participate in technical audits and peer reviews as required.
Business Growth
  • Deliver growth in the areas of responsibility through close collaboration with Business Development. Develop and own a business plan, and drive sales, bid and tender activity.
  • Assist with developing and delivering a robust business plan, whilst driving and supporting corporate initiatives, ensuring company values are at the core of all activities.
  • Expand the company’s business in the area served, direct local business development programs, proactively identify new opportunities and support / lead bid and tender activity as appropriate.
