Events Officer (Challenge)
The Brain Tumour Charity is leading the way in research, support, and advocacy for everyone affected by brain tumours. Our mission is simple but urgent: to accelerate a cure for brain tumours and improve life for everyone affected by this devastating disease.
Location: While contracted to our office in Fleet, Hampshire, our team supports a blend of office and home working provided you have adequate broadband and IT capability, with an average of 2 days in the office each week.
Working hours: This role is 37.5 hours per week, with some out of hours working.
Benchmarked salary: £32,050.
OverviewOur events team is bold and innovative, working across a wide portfolio of fundraising and engagement events including our annual flagship fundraising walk, The Twilight Walk, an exciting challenge event portfolio and a growing special events programme. As the Challenge Events Officer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering a high-performing portfolio of challenge and third-party fundraising events, including flagship opportunities such as the London Marathon, Great North Run, Royal Parks Half Marathon, and other national challenge events.
Responsibilities- Lead and deliver a portfolio of third-party and challenge events with support from the Events Manager.
- Act as the main liaison with event providers.
- Provide personalised, high-quality stewardship to participants, supporting fundraising, training and event preparation.
- Develop and implement recruitment plans to maximise participation and meet targets.
- Attend key challenge events as required, coordinating on‑day logistics and managing volunteers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships that encourage repeat engagement and long‑term commitment to the Charity.
- Maintain accurate records within the CRM.
- Support event reporting, performance tracking and trend analysis.
- Use insights to inform improvements in stewardship and event planning.
- Ensure all activity complies with fundraising regulations, health and safety requirements and GDPR.
- Manage suppliers to ensure excellent, cost‑effective delivery.
- Undertake additional duties as required to support the wider team and organisation.
- Contribute to achieving the objectives of The Brain Tumour Charity and live and breathe our values.
- Represent the Charity at external events in a professional manner.
- Monitor and evaluate activities and provide written reports.
- Previous experience/knowledge of the charity sector.
- Proven experience delivering challenge and fundraising events.
- Experience delivering strong supporter stewardship, and building meaningful, motivational relationships.
- Proven experience of working with a range of people, remotely or face‑to‑face, with an ability to understand their needs and deliver service efficiently and empathetically.
- Experience of leading and developing third‑party relationships.
- Experience using a CRM database to manage and track supporter engagement.
- Highly organised, self‑starter and capable of taking initiative.
- Understanding of challenge event providers and the charity events landscape.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and an ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines under pressure.
- Competent IT user including internet, database, email (Outlook), spreadsheets and MS Office.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly to changing needs.
- A collaborative, enthusiastic and community‑focused approach.
- Ability to build excellent relationships internally and externally.
- Happy to work out of hours and weekend as required by the events calendar (TOIL provided).
- A team player, willing to work flexibly across different teams and respond to emerging needs of the Charity.
- Empathy with the aims, objectives and activities of The Brain Tumour Charity.
