The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to support a major infrastructure and tunnelling project in London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a quality professional with hands-on experience of major civil engineering projects, particularly tunnelling and Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) works.

You will play an important role in providing quality assurance across the delivery of complex construction activities, undertaking site inspections and surveillances, reviewing quality documentation and ensuring that works are completed in accordance with the required specifications and quality standards.

The role will involve working across project offices and construction sites between West Ruislip and Euston, with four days per week required on site or in the office and one day working from home.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake independent site inspections and formal quality surveillances across tunnelling and civil engineering works.
  • Review Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) check sheets and supporting quality documentation.
  • Review completed ITP record packs to ensure they are accurate, complete and compliant.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure works are delivered in accordance with design requirements and project specifications.
  • Identify, record and raise non-conformances, ensuring these are addressed promptly.
  • Work closely with site teams and subcontractors to promote quality awareness and right-first-time delivery.
  • Ensure inspection and testing activities are completed in accordance with approved ITPs.
  • Monitor the production and timely completion of quality records and supporting documentation.
  • Liaise with the client and project management teams on quality-related matters.
  • Support the Quality Manager with day-to-day quality activities and provide holiday cover when required.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve quality standards and prevent defective work.
Required

Experience and Qualifications
  • Proven experience in a Quality Engineer or similar quality management role on a major infrastructure or civil engineering project.
  • Previous site-based experience within tunnelling and/or Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) works.
  • Experience undertaking site inspections within a tunnelling environment.
  • Strong understanding of quality management processes and ISO 9001:2015.
  • Experience reviewing Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) check sheets and completed ITP record packs.
  • Proven ability to identify, record and raise non-conformances.
  • Experience working with construction delivery teams and subcontractors to maintain quality standards.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Valid CSCS White Card.
  • Relevant on-site quality training.
The Project

You will be supporting a major UK infrastructure programme involving complex underground construction and tunnelling works.

The scope includes bored tunnels, sprayed concrete lining, shaft construction, earthworks, structural works and associated infrastructure.

You will be joining an established project team where quality assurance is central to the safe and successful delivery of the works.

What We Are Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates who have previously worked on major infrastructure projects and can demonstrate practical, hands-on quality experience within tunnelling or FRC environments.

You should be confident undertaking site inspections, reviewing quality records and working with construction teams to ensure that quality requirements are understood and achieved.
