Field Ecologist – Contract

AiDASH is a leading provider of vegetation risk intelligence for electric utilities. We are a Series‑C climate‑tech startup backed by major investors and recognized by Forbes and Time Magazine.

We are seeking a motivated Field Ecologist for a 1‑year contract to conduct ground verification of our AI and satellite‑powered Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments. The role is outdoor‑oriented and focuses on fieldwork, species identification, and habitat assessment while using BNGAI software and automated reporting systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field‑based verification surveys across the UK using our BNGAI Ground Survey app to validate AI and satellite‑powered biodiversity assessments.
  • Support finalisation of BNG baseline reports based on collected ground survey data.
  • Work autonomously to manage your survey schedule and travel arrangements.
  • Collaborate with our Solutions Ecology team to improve our technology based on field observations.
  • During periods of reduced survey requirements, support customer inquiries and ecology‑related tasks remotely.
  • Apply ecological knowledge to help validate and refine AI‑generated habitat classifications.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Associate or full member status with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting BNG assessments or ground verification work.
  • Solid knowledge of UK habitat classification systems and BNG metrics and calculations.
  • Proven ability to conduct ecological surveys independently with strong time‑management, self‑organisation, and health‑safety awareness.
  • Willingness to travel for field surveys (expenses paid).
Additional Skills & Desirable Qualifications
  • Comfortable learning and using field‑based technological tools and applications.
  • Experience providing habitat surveys specifically for BNG purposes.
  • Knowledge of NVC (National Vegetation Classification).
  • Current first aid training.
  • Field Identification Skills Certificate level 4 or equivalent.
  • Experience with GIS or digital mapping tools.
Contract Details
  • 1‑year fixed‑term contract.
  • Competitive salary.
  • All travel and accommodation expenses fully covered.
  • Flexible remote work during non‑survey periods.
  • Comprehensive training on BNGAI technology and automated reporting.
