Support Worker, Community Health

Cape Breton Island Centre for Immigration / 37 Nepean Street, Sydney

• Understand, execute, and update as needed project objectives and deliverables
• Work with Retention Facilitator to develop events and programming aligned with contract deliverables
• Manage feedback mechanisms to reflect and improve on project objectives
• Engage with employers across the CBRM, building relationship and partnerships where necessary
• One on one employment support/counselling with eligible clients (resume/cover letter creation, recognizing transferable skills, interview prep, tailored guidance to client’s specific career goals
• Creating and fostering connections to/with professional networking opportunities; act as liaison between client and employer
• Organize/deliver skill development workshops (effective job search strategies, workplace culture, communication skills)
• Research and evaluation (identify employer/specific sector needs, identify barriers to entry into the workforce)
• Organize 2 cohorts of clients for targeted/sector focused employment education

Other Duties & Responsibilities

• Participate in internal team meetings as required
• Look for potential improvements and help implement solutions
• Maintain quality, safety and the confidentiality of employees, clients, and volunteers
• Maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity so as to portray New Dawn in a positive manner, consistent with its values and vision
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, engaging in professional networks, and participating in professional organizations
• Respond to the needs of others with effective communication, mutual respect, and consistent follow through to build trust and workplace relationships
• Promote the mission and values of New Dawn both internally and externally
• Other duties as assigned

• College Diploma or University Degree in a related field
• Current (within last 6 months) clear Criminal Record Check
• Compassion, empathy, diplomacy, and problem solving
• Experience working with and advocating for vulnerable populations
• Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with guidance
• Exceptional attention to detail and verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with others toward shared goals
• Highly organized and ability to work well under pressure
• Proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs and applications
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
• Understands servant leadership and community-centricity

• Use of desktop computer and peripherals
• Interaction with employees, volunteers, management, clients and the public
• Travel may be required
• Overtime may be required; working evenings/weekends as needed
• Environment can be busy and/or noisy at times

Paid Vacation

All full-time salaried employees are entitled to one hundred and twenty (120) hours of paid vacation, annually.

Paid Mental & Physical Health Days

All full-time salaried employees are entitled to fifty‑six (56) hours of paid leave for mental and physical health, annually. These days can be used to take time off work for physical and/or mental wellness/illness, and to attend appointments for the employee and/or their dependents.
