Canonical’s product management team consists of technologists who passion for delivering products and solutions that shape market demands while elevating open source software everywhere. This role is part of our Cloud Native product group and will drive product strategy, commercial positioning, and marketing leadership for selected cloud‑native operations products.
Responsibilities- Lead the lifecycle of the product development by reviewing priorities and goals for the products you are responsible for.
- Work closely with engineering leads to oversee the product development process.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams such as engineering, design, marketing, and sales to address challenges, align priorities, and keep business execution on track.
- Conduct market research, analyze industry trends, and gather customer feedback to identify opportunities and ensure alignment with Canonical’s overall vision.
- Develop your team through coaching, mentoring, and training.
- Establish KPIs for project status reporting and communicate them across Canonical.
- Drive execution excellence through continuous feedback and improvement.
- Contribute to the development of strategies to create and maintain high‑performing teams.
- Support the sales team in winning new opportunities by reviewing customer feedback and participating in customer meetings.
- Juju – an open‑source orchestration engine for software operators that enables the deployment, integration, and lifecycle management of applications at any scale on any infrastructure using charms.
- Identity Management – defining the way authentication, authorization, and identity governance controls are applied across Ubuntu One SSO and other Canonical products.
- Observability – outlining the strategy for how Canonical products and charms perform tracing and discern underlying system health.
Remote within the EMEA region. Candidates must be based in EMEA.
Qualifications- Seasoned product management experience in technical domains related to the usage and/or management of open source software in the cloud native landscape.
- Experience designing or managing software operations for large‑scale distributed systems.
- Good understanding of cloud native technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker containers.
- Comprehensive knowledge of common enterprise security and compliance requirements in software operations.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and drive their execution to excellence.
- Passion for writing about technologies and experience in developer marketing.
- A strong work ethic, with personal interests aligned with the open source philosophy.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.
- Experience with CNCF projects, identity, or observability systems.
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and passion for the future of technology.
- Strong sense of ownership over product and team success.
- Problem‑solving mindset with visionary leadership capabilities.
- Distributed work environment with twice‑yearly sprints in person; remote work since 2004.
