Software Engineer, Embedded Software Engineer
Join Thales UK as a Senior Software Engineer in Glasgow, specializing in Real‑Time and Embedded Engineering. You will be part of a dynamic, collaborative team that designs and delivers mission‑critical defence solutions.
Education:
Master of Engineering in Computer Software Engineering or related field.
- Design, implement and test scalable, high‑performance embedded software for military and telecommunications platforms.
- Apply coding best practices to produce elegant, reusable and well‑documented code in C/C++ (and related languages).
- Follow security best practices for software and system architecture.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional developers and UX to validate user experience concepts.
- Participate in agile ceremonies, including user story creation, sprint planning and backlog refinement.
- Maintain code in source repositories, manage CI/CD pipelines and contribute to automated testing and deployment.
- Investigate and resolve application issues in test and integration environments.
- Experience developing for embedded OS such as Linux, VxWorks, FastOS Linux.
- Proficiency in C/C++ (and optionally VB, .NET, Ada, Assembly). Ability to write performance‑optimised code.
- Familiarity with development tools, measurement instruments and debugging of low‑level processors.
- Knowledge of embedded system architecture, configuration and communication protocols (DDS, ARINC, etc.).
- Strong mathematical and statistical background with data‑driven problem‑solving skills.
- Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and related automation tools (Helm, Ansible, Docker).
- Experience with agile development methodologies and tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
- Ability to interpret and implement security and safety standards.
Part‑time working arrangements may be available; flexible start and finish times, job sharing and remote work options are supported.
