Software Engineering Manager – Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure
Canonical, a leader in open‑source software and operating systems, is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to build a next‑generation private cloud infrastructure. This remote position is available for candidates in EMEA and the Americas.
The role focuses on high‑quality microservice architectures, Linux kernel, virtualisation, storage and networking. You will lead a remote team, mentor engineers, drive technical delivery, and collaborate with the open‑source community.
Location: Remote – EMEA & Americas
What you will focus on- Lead a team of remote engineers
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career development
- Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
- Advocate and advance modern software development practices
- Participate in engineering processes through code and architectural review
- Engage with Canonical, the open‑source community, and partners
- Work from home with global travel for 4‑6 weeks per year
- Deep knowledge of Linux cloud computing technologies (networking, storage, containers, Kubernetes)
- Strong track record of developing and growing people
- Focus on delivering timely, high‑quality software
- Degree in Computer Science, STEM or equivalent
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills
- Experience programming in C and/or Go
- Distributed work environment with twice‑yearly team sprints in person
