We are hiring an Engineering Manager for Ceph & Distributed Storage. Our mission is to make Ceph easy to install, manage, and use—from large data‑center deployments to half‑rack edge sites—by reducing complexity and cost while improving reliability.
As an engineering manager at Canonical you must be technically strong; your primary responsibility is to run an effective team and develop your colleagues. You will lead, challenge, and develop engineers, positively influence culture, facilitate technical delivery, and ensure sound software architecture, quality practices and documentation.
What you’ll do- Lead a team building a Ceph‑focused software‑defined storage solution.
- Build and manage a globally distributed team of engineers.
- Coach, mentor, and give feedback to grow your team.
- Contribute sound engineering principles toward your team’s goals.
- Set realistic schedules based on careful estimates and refined through feedback loops.
- Manage expectations with other engineering teams and external stakeholders.
- Advance modern, agile software development practices.
- Maintain a culture of quality and engineering excellence.
- Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with company values.
- Be an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders.
- Work from home with global travel up to 20% for internal and external events.
- Software engineering background, preferably Python and C++ experience.
- Experience operating scale‑out storage clusters on Linux in production, preferably with Ceph.
- Passionate about embracing new technologies and driving the boundaries forward.
- Track record of developing and growing people.
- Interests in building products that improve how people operate software and infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of software development principles.
- Proven experience leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers in an agile environment.
