Position Overview

The Government of Ontario is seeking two experienced Lead Software Engineers – Enterprise Applications to drive technical excellence, strategic software development, and engineering leadership across enterprise initiatives. This role focuses on influencing development practices, mentoring engineering teams, and aligning technical solutions with business objectives.

The successful candidates will be responsible for leading architecture decisions, fostering team growth, and ensuring high-quality, scalable, and secure software delivery. This role requires both technical depth and leadership skills, bridging the gap between engineering teams and enterprise stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership & Architecture:

  • Lead system design, architecture decisions, and technical strategy for enterprise applications.

  • Ensure solutions are robust, scalable, secure, and aligned with organizational goals.

  • Advocate for best practices and coding standards across development teams.

• Team Mentorship & Development:

  • Mentor engineers to enhance technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and software quality.

  • Foster collaboration across teams to improve synergy and efficiency.

  • Support knowledge sharing and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement.

• Strategic Alignment:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and leadership to align technology solutions with business priorities.

  • Influence strategic decision-making through technical expertise and insights.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend tools or practices that improve efficiency and innovation.

• Software Quality & Delivery:

  • Lead initiatives to implement secure development practices and improve code quality.

  • Ensure adherence to Agile methodologies, Dev Ops workflows, and enterprise software standards.

  • Review and guide development to maintain consistency, reliability, and performance across applications.

• Cross-Team
  
  Collaboration:

  • Work with multiple teams to drive enterprise-level solutions and standardize development practices.

  • Contribute to organization-wide technical strategies and initiatives.

  • Support the execution of additional responsibilities to meet organizational objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• 6–8 years of professional experience in software development and technical leadership.

• Proven experience mentoring engineers and driving engineering excellence across teams.

• Strong expertise in system architecture, design patterns, cloud technologies, and enterprise applications.

• Experience with Agile methodologies, Dev Ops practices, and modern software development workflows.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams.
