Robinson Consultants is seeking a self-motivated Certified Engineering Technologist – Drainage Services (Completing projects under the Ontario Drainage Act) to join the collaborative and dynamic team in our Ottawa office. This position is responsible for working on a wide range of projects under the Ontario Drainage Act as well as multi-disciplinary assignments for both private and public sector clients including culvert design, surface drainage design, hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, stormwater management, private development servicing, low impact development measures, and natural watercourse restoration and rehabilitation design.
As a member of the Drainage Services team, the duties will include, but are not limited to:
What you’ll be doing:
- Assist intermediate and senior engineering staff with design tasks such as culvert design, surface drainage design, hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, stormwater management, private development servicing, low impact development measures, and natural watercourse restoration and rehabilitation design.
- Assist with the preparation of various documents including proposals, engineering reports, public communications and reports, contract specifications and engineering drawings.
- Coordinate with administrative and technical support staff.
- Assist intermediate and senior engineering staff with construction administration tasks such as reviewing submissions, contract changes, design changes. Will require field work to complete these tasks.
- Assist in surveying Municipal Drains and other field work
- Assist with the preparation of budgets, constructions quantities and engineering costs estimates.
- Exercise professional and sound judgement in the execution of responsibilities.
- Liaise and build effective working relationships with clients, stakeholders and subconsultants.
You should have:
- 3-year Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or related field) or 2-year Diploma in Construction Engineering Technician
- Current Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Current Certified Technician (C.Tech.)
- Familiarity with the principles and practices of civil engineering, equipment, processes, practices, and standards used in the design and construction of municipal infrastructure.
- Knowledge of design and drafting software (e.g., ArcGIS, Civil 3D, Microsoft Suite)
- Highly developed interpersonal, client service and teamwork skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Bilingual in French considered as asset.
- Strong organizational skills to balance the delivery of multiple projects.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.
- A team player, motivated attitude willing to take on new challenges.
- Previous working experience within an engineering environment (e.g., consulting engineering, heavy civil contractor, public sector engineering department, construction inspection) will be considered an asset.
