The Opportunity
Why You’ll Love This Role
This is an excellent opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and to contribute to the process automation used this position, students will help to advance the automated assembly processes used in the final stages of the optical assembly of the WSS and OCS related products. Students will be mentored by senior engineers and together they will develop the processes, hardware and software to enable the targeted alignment improvements.
Students will collaborate with the Optical Design, Manufacturing Engineering and Automation Software Development teams throughout their work terms, giving them a broad overview of the many disciplines involved in the design of our products.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Optical Alignment Automation and Analytics Co-op responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Become familiar with Lumentum’s optical alignment automation platform and manufacturing data management systems, as required.
• Implement targeted experiments to advance the alignment platform (hardware and processes) under the mentorship of the automation team.
• Debug and field-test processes with end-users and other developers.
• Create, peer review, and release work instructions and other necessary documentation.
• Improve the Python-based process analytics software platform.
What We’re Looking For
The following skills are required for this role:
• Curiosity to engage and understand
• Good problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Team player and can work autonomously
• Familiarity with Python script programming or similar.
Practical experience with any of the following would be considered a strong asset:
• Affixing and detaching components with adhesives
• Machine vision processes, hardware, and software
• Robotic gripper processes, hardware, and software
• Pick and place automation processes
• Assembly and test of free-space optical systems
• Version control (any application).
• Tools to query, analyze and present data, such as Excel Pivots and Charts, JMP or Minitab.
Education
: 3rd or 4th year:
Mechatronics Engineering or related field.
