JOB SUMMARY
The mandate of Infrastructure Services is to implement city-building priorities – from planning and delivering infrastructure projects, to managing infrastructure assets and investments.
You manage total project delivery using in-house and/or external resources for major infrastructure construction and rehabilitation projects, including roadways, transitways, structures, sewers, water mains, pumping stations, treatment works, drainage works, lighting, solid waste/landfill sites, cycling facilities, traffic calming, transit improvements, streetscaping and related underground utilities.
You are responsible for all phases of the project delivery, from project inception through consultant selection (where applicable), public consultation, pre-design, detailed design, approvals, tendering, and award, to construction.
You monitor, track and report on project status, approve all project expenditures, arrange all project related testing, and handle commissioning/turnover to operating branches. Assignments involve major or multiple projects that are highly complex, of multi-million dollar value, frequently having numerous stakeholders and may require extensive public consultation and environmental assessment and may extend over multiple years.
You also: participate in project identification, prioritization and planning; organize the conduct of environmental impact assessment and other studies and all stages of the project lifecycle; contribute to the review/development of department engineering standards; and carry out other duties as assigned.
These positions are in the Design & Construction Water Facilities branch of Infrastructure Services, which focuses on infrastructure projects in the City’s water and wastewater facilities. The ideal candidate should have experience managing design and construction projects in operational facilities including drinking water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants and water/wastewater pumping stations.
