We are seeking a talented Designer to join our dynamic team in Ottawa.
Responsibilities
Design fire sprinkler and standpipe systems using AutoCAD, Revit, and/or specialized fire protection software in a construction environment.Determine the applicable hazard(s) being protected and develop applicable fire sprinkler protection strategies in accordance with applicable Building codes, standards, and other project specific requirementsPerform hydraulic calculations based on the applicable hazards being protectedInterpret architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical plans to develop coordinated sprinkler system piping and sprinkler locationsPrepare detailed design document submittals for approvalPrepare detailed material lists for fabrication and installationVerify that all deliverables meet NFPA standards and local ordinancesCollaborate with management, estimating, design, fabrication, installation and project management as a valuable team member resulting in increased profitabilityQualifications
3-5 years’ working experience in fire protection design or related field or a recent graduate of post-secondary program in Fire Protection Engineering or related field of study.Knowledge of the design, layout, hydraulic calculations, stock listing of fire protections systemsProject management knowledge is an asset.NICET Certification in Water-Based Systems Layout is considered an asset, and/or able to become certified.Proficiency using AutoCAD and/or Revit, MS Office, Hydra
CAD, and a hydraulic calculation & listing program(s) to design and layout systems.Experience with Hydra
CAD and/or Hydra
CAD for Revit is an assetInterpret and apply applicable Building/Fire codes & NFPA standardsStrong verbal and written communication skills in EnglishObtain/retain any licenses required by national, province and local codes, and Troy Policies.Obtaining and retaining NICET I certification in Automatic Sprinkler System Layout is an assetSuccessfully achieving NICET I within two years, NICET II within 2 to 5 years of equivalent trade experience is an assetCall To Action
