Role Description

Arcadis' Canadian Water Team is looking for dedicated, creative, and energetic entry‑level Water Engineering Specialists interested in tackling challenges and developing sustainable solutions for water and wastewater treatment, pumping station, infrastructure upgrades and expansion, asset management, water and wastewater operations, stormwater management and condition assessment. Collaborating with our experienced water professionals, you will support and drive the development of projects, interact and work with clients, and develop your technical capabilities.

This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring the successful candidate to be on‑site in our Oakville, Markham, Toronto and/or Ottawa, Ontario offices at least 2 days per week. The role sits within our global business area Resilience.

Role Accountabilities

As an Entry Level Water Engineering Specialist on our team, you will be involved in a range of projects including preliminary and detailed design, construction services, and engineering and operations for a range of water facilities projects. Your support will also extend to project management activities. Additionally, you will contribute to sustainability and resilience projects by conducting vulnerability assessments, mitigation planning, and designing solutions for our clients.

In the field, you will be responsible for performing various tasks such as site visits and assessments, water sampling, analyzing collected data, evaluating technologies, troubleshooting processes, and optimizing plant operations.

  • Support the process mechanical engineering team in the design of large municipal water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed designs in vertical infrastructure under the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Conduct hydraulic design calculations, size process equipment, and prepare design reports, specifications, process drawings, cost estimates, and tender documents.
  • Conduct condition assessments of existing facilities, commission design projects, troubleshoot performance issues, and provide support during construction services.
  • Support preparation of reports and presentations and participate in client meetings.
  • Ensure project compliance with all Arcadis practices and quality, health and safety standards, and facilitate coordination for timely completion and submission of projects on time and budget.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to accommodate collaboration with team members across the U.S. and internationally.
  • Learn and use digital tools to enhance customer experience, team and client collaboration, and project delivery including configuration and deployment of SharePoint, Building Information Modeling (BIM), CAD, Power BI, and Augmented Reality.

Knowledge of engineering concepts, theories, and practices related to water/wastewater treatment and pumping is essential. Familiarity or experience with AutoCAD and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project are also valuable.
