Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Litigation Lawyer with a focus on commercial, civil, or construction litigation to join our legal team. The successful candidate will represent clients in complex litigation matters, providing expert legal advice, managing case files, and ensuring effective dispute resolution. This role requires strong advocacy skills, legal research proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple cases through all stages of litigation.
Key Responsibilities- Handle a broad range of litigation matters, with a focus on commercial, civil, and construction disputes.
- Represent clients in court, arbitration, mediation, and settlement negotiations.
- Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, briefs, contracts, and other legal documents.
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to build compelling arguments for cases.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their objectives and provide strategic advice for litigation or dispute resolution.
- Manage all stages of litigation, from initial investigation and discovery through to trial or settlement.
- Negotiate and draft settlement agreements, ensuring clients’ best interests are represented.
- Liaise with expert witnesses, contractors, and other professionals in construction or civil matters.
- Provide risk assessments and advise clients on the legal implications of disputes.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and precedents affecting commercial, civil, and construction litigation.
- Ensure all case files are organized, well-documented, and up to date with developments.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and membership in good standing with the provincial/state bar association.
- 2+ years of experience in commercial, civil, or construction litigation.
- Proven track record of managing and resolving complex litigation matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong negotiation and advocacy abilities.
- Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw or CanLII.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative legal team.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- Experience with dispute resolution processes such as arbitration and mediation is an asset.
