This post is based at the Malaria Laboratory of the Mahidol Oxford Research Unit (MORU). MORU is a collaboration between Mahidol and Oxford Universities, principally funded by the Wellcome Trust. Its objectives are to conduct research in tropical diseases with the aim of supporting the identification and treatment of these diseases in Thailand and other countries. Our research aims directly to improve the treatment of malaria globally.
The focus of the Bangkok Unit is on the treatment of severe malaria, mechanisms and spread of antimalarial drug resistance, and the pathophysiology of falciparum and vivax malaria.
Laboratory studies are conducted in our laboratories in Bangkok, though there is a network of collaborators. The laboratories in Bangkok also support the clinical studies. Fewer severe malaria patients are recruited nowadays in Mae Sot, on the Thai-Myanmar border, where the focus has shifted to detailed studies in uncomplicated malaria.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include general cell culture techniques and cultivating of BSL2 agents; general molecular biological techniques, including conventional PCR, gel electrophoresis and western blot; replenishing laboratory stock solutions; biosafety waste disposal; performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment; ordering lab supplies; and handling other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Bachelors’ degree or Masters’ degree in Biology or related subject
- 1-3 years previous experience of working in a research laboratory
- Familiarity with cell culture techniques is of advantage
- Good spoken and written English
- Good team player
- Ability to contribute to the development of new lab protocols

The salary will be based on MORU scales and will depend on experience and qualifications.
The salary package includes:
- 13th months of salary
