Shift pattern: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., with an on‑call rota of 1 in 10.

Contract: Fixed‑term post for 12 months (maternity leave cover).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant Colorectal Surgeon to join the General Surgery team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH), Paisley, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, to provide maternity leave cover for a period of 12 months. The successful applicant will join a well‑established team of Colorectal, Upper GI and Breast Consultants, providing specialist colorectal services and participating in the General Surgery on‑call rota (currently 1 : 10).

The Colorectal Service at RAH manages a wide range of benign and malignant conditions and delivers high‑quality, patient‑centred care across the Clyde Sector. The unit works closely with regional services, including a weekly Colorectal Cancer MDT, dedicated ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) pathways, and excellent support from CNS, radiology, pathology, gastroenterology and oncology colleagues. RAH Consultants also provide clinical services at the Vale of Leven Hospital.

Key Service Features:

• Laparoscopic colorectal surgery as standard practice.
• Strong links with the West of Scotland Bowel Screening Programme.
• Active involvement in IBD and colorectal cancer pathways.
• Well‑supported endoscopy services with opportunities to develop subspecialty skills.

Teaching & Research: The hospital has a strong commitment to education, with active undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, simulation facilities, and a proven record in supporting research and audit.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview) and demonstrate a commitment to high standards of clinical care, team working and service improvement.
