Job Description & How to Apply Below
Spectra-BREAST ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) is an EU-funded research project focused on the molecular characterization of breast cancer tissues using label-free Raman spectroscopy and hyperspectral imaging. The project aims to link spectral signatures to tissue composition, morphology, and biological heterogeneity by integrating spectroscopic measurements with histological and biological expertise in a translational research framework. The work is carried out with a network of leading academic and industrial partners active in biophotonics.
This is a full‑time, on‑site position based in Pavia, Italy, for a Postdoctoral Researcher. The successful candidate will contribute to the acquisition, processing, analysis, and interpretation of Raman and hyperspectral datasets from biological tissues, supporting the development of advanced spectroscopic approaches for translational oncology.
Applicants with a biological background are strongly encouraged to apply, provided they can demonstrate solid interest and/or experience in spectroscopic methods and quantitative data analysis. The role also includes contributing to dissemination activities, scientific writing (papers, reports), and the preparation of new grant proposals aligned with the project scope.
Responsibilities
Acquire, process, analyze, and interpret Raman and hyperspectral datasets from biological tissues.
Support the development of advanced spectroscopic approaches for translational oncology.
Contribute to dissemination activities, including scientific writing of papers and reports.
Prepare new grant proposals aligned with the project scope.
Qualifications
Hands‑on laboratory experience with Raman spectroscopy and/or hyperspectral imaging applied to biomedical samples.
Strong skills in quantitative data analysis (signal processing, statistics, multivariate methods).
Working knowledge of physics concepts relevant to spectroscopy and biomedical imaging.
Strong problem‑solving mindset, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Commitment to mentorship and collaborative teamwork.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clinicians and clinical laboratory staff, aligning research activities with clinical workflows, sample handling constraints, and translational/diagnostic objectives.
PhD in Physics, Biology, Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, or related field (required).
Referrals increase your chances of interviewing at Maugeri by 2x.
