Physiotherapist Specialist – Rotational Surgical Rehabilitation

About the Role

An opportunity has arisen within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board for a Physiotherapist to join our specialist Surgical Rehabilitation rotation. Rotating on a 9‑month basis, you will gain experience within a broad range of clinical areas including Trauma, Orthopaedics, Vascular services and community‑based therapies such as ALAC, Cancer Prehabilitation and VCRS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver physiotherapy services to patients within specialist clinical areas, prioritising those with multi‑pathology, complex needs and cognitive or behavioural problems.
  • Manage your own patient caseload independently, including participation in overnight and weekend on‑call services for critically ill patients.
  • Provide support for the clinical supervision of physiotherapists, student physiotherapists and support staff.
  • Participate in full induction, a comprehensive programme of in‑service training, regular appraisal and development opportunities.
  • Work flexibly within normal contracted hours and adapt to varied working patterns, including extended days or 7‑day service plans as required.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Relevant physiotherapy qualifications and experience in the listed clinical areas.
  • Strong clinical and leadership skills, with enthusiasm for multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Ability to demonstrate competence working with complex, critically ill patients.
  • Welsh language skills are desirable;
    Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome.
  • Current employment with Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board is required for application.
Working Conditions

Normal contracted hours will be honoured with flexibility for service needs. The role is full‑time and based across six hospital sites within the Cardiff and Vale Health Board.
