Senior Bridge Engineer

Location – Flexible, can be based from our Head Office in Perth, Northwest Office in Inverness, or our South East Offices in South Queensferry or Bonnyrigg

An opportunity has arisen within BEAR Scotland’s Major Bridges Team in our Northwest and Southeast Teams, for a Senior Bridge Engineer. The role would involve working within a diverse team on the investigation, design, procurement and construction of various bridge maintenance schemes.

• Assist with the management and supervision of a small design team, sub-consultants and sub-contractors.
• Oversee the outline and detailed design of bridge maintenance schemes including technical approval and design certification.
• Ensure compliance with technical standards or manage the submission of Departures from Standard when applicable.
• Produce tender documents and preconstruction information packages.
• Tender evaluation and assisting with contract award.
• Manage the internal financial performance of individual schemes.
• Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company’s Integrated management systems.
• Ensure compliance with the CDM Regulations, as required, and ensure that robust risk assessments are carried out before works, operations or inspections take place.
• Liaise with clients and auditors.
• Co-ordinate the production, issue and archiving of all drawings, documents, and scheme files.
• Ensuring that adequate environmental screening is undertaken and appropriate mitigation measures are implemented prior to work commencing.

• Educated to degree level in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Relevant experience in the design and maintenance of highway bridge structures.
• Professional qualifications and membership of an appropriate professional body (IEng / CEng and MICE, MIStruct
  
  E, IHE etc)
• A full approved UK driving licence.
• Skilled in the project management of schemes and the management of teams.

Candidates should have experience of civil engineering design and as well as a knowledge of health and safety, environmental and commercial aspects of schemes. Candidates should be professionally qualified to Ieng or CEng Level.
