The role

SSEN Transmission's Pathway to 2030 blueprint will see us grow to become the UK’s second largest Transmission Owner with 24GW of connected renewable generation and an operational asset value of £20bn.

As part of this exciting growth, we are seeking a Transmission Control Manager to join our senior team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the North of Scotland Transmission system.

You will
  • Lead the implementation of innovative operational and system control strategies, embracing emerging technologies while upholding the highest standards of compliance, safety, and regulatory obligations.
  • Champion SSEN-T’s representation at UK Government, OFGEM, NESO, and industry forums, proactively shaping the future of UK energy strategy through inclusive collaboration and partnership.
  • Influence and nurture the development of UK energy codes, standards, and policies to deliver a unified, resilient, and reliable GB system, ensuring diverse perspectives are valued and integrated.
  • Foster strong, positive stakeholder relationships to drive system growth, enhance network access, and deliver safe, efficient clean energy solutions in line with national priorities.
  • Guide performance improvement and crisis management initiatives, including asset approval and operational readiness, making considered decisions that secure financial sustainability and national energy security.
You have
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (Chartered Engineer preferred) with proven detail orientated expertise in UK energy regulation, Transmission Licence obligations, Grid Code, STC and integrating emerging technologies.
  • Expertise in power system engineering, operational safety, and integration of new technologies with demonstrated resilience, judgement and the ability to remain composed whilst influencing policy and strategy at the national level.
  • Strong collaborative leadership and team development, empowering others and nurturing inclusive growth.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, building positive relationships through clear, empathetic dialogue.
  • Deep commitment to safety, innovation, and ongoing improvement, championing new technologies and best practices.
