Position Overview
The Process Engineering and Maintenance Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the CANDU fuel assembly manufacturing facility. The position reports directly to the Peterborough Plant Manager and leads the Process Owners/Engineering and Maintenance Technician teams, focusing on optimizing production processes, enhancing equipment reliability, and maintaining compliance with nuclear industry standards. By fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and collaboration, the Process and Maintenance Manager ensures that plant operations meet quality, safety, and performance objectives.

Your Day to Day:
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and manage a diverse team of Process Engineers and Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance Technicians, fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and collaboration.
- Establish goals and design training programs that enhance team performance by improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), efficiency, quality, and safety, while minimizing scrap and downtime.
- Provide leadership in quality program adherence from the Process Engineering and Technician teams.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide mentorship, and support the career growth of team members.
- Perform strategic reviews of the teams current and future skills while working to develop the team skillset to fill observed gaps.
Process Engineering Oversight
- Oversee the design, documentation, optimization, and troubleshooting of production processes to ensure efficient and high-quality fuel production.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to meet stringent nuclear industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze process performance data and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
- Act as engineering signing authority for documents including travellers, MEIs and TEIs.
- Maintain a seat on the Material Review Board and actively support resolution of Material Loss Reports.
- Act as a key contributor, with your team, to determine root cause, establishing repeatable processes and structures around RCA methodologies.
Maintenance Technician Oversight
- Manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for mechanical and electrical systems to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Schedule, plan, and execute maintenance activities, ensuring alignment with production schedules.
- Lead root cause analyses for equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Manage PMs and own the Maintenance Connections Software responsibilities.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and nuclear regulatory requirements.
- Promote a safety-first culture and implement processes to mitigate risks associated with nuclear fuel manufacturing.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with CNSC (Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission), IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and other relevant regulations.
- Model safety expectations through personal performance.
Other Responsibilities
- Support the Advanced Engineering team in implementation of plant upgrades and 6 sigma training and methodologies.
