Position: Quantity Surveyor (Permanent)
Job Overview

The Quantity Surveyor provides commercial support to project teams, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and driving cost efficiency across civil engineering and infrastructure projects. They manage commercial information, monitor budgets, and liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to maximise value and mitigate risk. Projects vary in size, complexity, and duration, and the Quantity Surveyor plays a key role in ensuring financial control and commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting & Cost Management

* Maintain accurate cost and value reporting at project and business unit levels.

* Manage cash flow and forecast project spend.

* Update monthly commercial plans and cost/value reports.

Processes & Compliance

* Ensure adherence to internal commercial processes.

* Seek improvements to processes and procedures.

* Understand and assist in the development of processes used by joint ventures or alliances.

External Relationships

* Review main contract terms to identify commercial risks.

* Manage subcontractor agreements, payments, and negotiations.

* Liaise with clients and third parties on variations, claims, and additional payments.

* Build and maintain positive client relationships.

Internal Relationships

* Collaborate with site and operational teams to manage costs.

* Support forecasting and cost control to meet financial targets.

* Share best practices and advise teams on cost management.

Essential Skills & Experience

* Experience in the construction industry.

* HND, degree, or equivalent in Quantity Surveying.

* Familiarity with ICE/NEC contracts and Construction Law.

* Commercial management and subcontractor procurement experience.

* Knowledge of monthly reporting, earned value analysis, estimation, and cost analysis.

* Strong numerical, organisational, and time management skills.

* Excellent communication and computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.

* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

Desirable

* Membership of RICS or relevant professional body, or working towards it.

* CSCS card.

* Experience with NEC Option A & E contracts.

* Full driving licence.
