Position: 360 Excavator Operator

Overview

As a 360 excavator operator, you will be responsible for driving the equipment on a construction site, excavating and levelling ground according to site plans, moving heavy objects, and performing related tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate 360 excavators safely.
  • Interpret technical plans and site markings, including laser levels.
  • Carry out routine machine inspections.
  • Fit and operate ancillary equipment.
  • Dig foundations and level ground.
  • Demolish existing structures or break up concrete.
  • Prepare terrain for new constructions.
  • Perform lifting operations involving large materials.
  • Dredge ditches and rivers, laying pipes to supply water to buildings.
  • Adhere to strict health and safety guidelines.
How to Become a 360 Excavator Operator

Several routes exist: complete a specialist college course or an apprenticeship, and gain further qualifications and experience to move into the role. A valid Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) card is required. Many employers also prefer a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

Salary

Newly trained operators can start at £25,000, while experienced operators can earn up to £55,000. Salaries vary by location, employer, level of responsibility, overtime, and completion of industry‑recognised training routes.
