System Engineer

PE Global is recruiting a Digital Systems Engineer on behalf of a leading global engineering organisation based in Peterborough
. This is an office‑based role
, working 37 hours per week
, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility on start and finish times. The position offers an hourly rate of £32.80 PAYE or £44.52 Umbrella and is available to start ASAP on an initial 12‑month contract
, with rolling extensions highly likely
.

• Develop high‑level system boundary diagrams for on‑board controllers, telematics, platform components, and applications.
• Lead Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) and create validation plans in collaboration with subject‑matter experts.
• Document and gain consensus on test plans with cross‑functional teams.
• Support the testing and validation process alongside simulation engineers.
• Collaborate extensively with internal teams including Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Cat Electronics, Sales, Marketing, and Applications across multiple Caterpillar divisions (Energy & Transportation, Construction Industries, and Resource Industries).

• 3–5 years’ experience within product or service development

• Proven background in digital delivery (IT, software development, or engineering data).
• Strong organisation, prioritisation, and planning skills
  .
• Excellent communication and time management abilities.
• Comfortable working in ambiguous, first‑time problem‑solving environments
  .
• Experience in Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, Engineering
  , or Applications relating to customer and product development.
• Understanding of telematics, cloud computing, analytics, or application development
  .
• Proven ability to influence and work through others to achieve results.
