There are several routes to becoming a tunnelling ventilation engineer. You would usually be expected to hold a university degree, but you could also complete a college course or an apprenticeship, or apply directly if you already have relevant engineering experience.
Education Paths- Undergraduate degree – usually requires 2–3 A‑levels or equivalent
- Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Engineering
- Apprenticeship – open to anyone over 16; typically 30 hours a week with a mix of on‑the‑job experience and college training
Work experience is essential to gaining employment within the construction industry. You could gain this at school, or by working weekends and holidays with a company or relative who works as a tunnelling ventilation engineer. Potential employers will always appreciate work experience listed on your CV.
