Mott Mac Donald Bentley is recruiting a Design Lead to join the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA). The SPA project spans 330 km of potable water transfer pipelines and associated infrastructure, with an additional 260 km to be delivered. Projects are valued up to £200 m and will be completed during the AMP8 delivery phase.

• Lead design delivery of the infra or non‑infra element of major potable water transfer projects, from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
• Work collaboratively with the Head of Engineering, Design Manager and Senior Designers to understand design needs and manage the design team for your section of the SPA programme.
• Collaborate with delivery teams (construction, procurement, enabling, planning and commercial) to ensure efficient design delivery aligned with constructability requirements.
• Plan, forecast and resource design activities across your elements, monitor workload and deliver on time.
• Develop close working relationships with AW operational stakeholders to support design decisions and client sign‑off.
• Provide good information flow, for example through technical queries.
• Guide your team to produce designs in accordance with CDM regulations, minimising safety risks during construction, commissioning and maintenance.
• Ensure survey works (utilities, ground investigation and existing site surveys) are specified in a timely manner.
• Liaise with temporary works design.

• Degree level engineering or related subject.
• Experience working in multi‑disciplinary teams and track record of managing a design section.
• Experience delivering civil, mechanical, electrical and control aspects throughout the design phase, including modular and production‑methodology designs.
• Understanding of design interactions throughout the project lifecycle.
