Environmental Crime Officer

Job Description

Join to apply for the Environmental Crime Officer – 32458 role at Environment Agency. Strengthen our team of Environmental Crime Investigators in the North and East of England, supporting a major investigation into potential breaches of permit conditions at sewage treatment works.

• Assist with site inspection/searches, including obtaining Magistrates Warrants if required.
• Analyse and evidence materials from site inspections/searches.
• Analyse data systems for reporting of offenders, visit/revisit complainants, evidence any material they hold, and build environmental effect/victim impact side of the case.
• Determine if offences have been dealt with previously and identify any action/sanctions already taken.
• Evidence water company documents (e.g., Companies House records, statements of accounts).
• Assist with S108/PACE interview planning, implementation, evidencing and review.
• Assist with case file production.

• Experience in an investigatory or regulatory role, with knowledge of evidence collection and case file production.
• Knowledge of investigative legislation, including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and Criminal Procedures and Investigation Act.
• Strong analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to complete tasks accurately with minimal supervision, working individually or as part of a team.
• Proficient in IT – Microsoft Office, Excel, SharePoint, etc.
• Knowledge of corporate investigations is beneficial but not essential.

The role requires occasional travel; a valid driving licence is required. The Environment Agency is committed to diversity and inclusion. Interviews may be conducted via MS Teams.
