Position: H&S Coordinator H/F

H&S Coordinator H/F

Company: VINCI Construction Grands Projets (a subsidiary of VINCI Group)

Project: Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program – designing and constructing a new deep‑water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant’s cooling system. Key elements include a 1.5 km tunnel built by a 10.15 m diameter slurry TBM, two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore), and an offshore modular intake structure resting on the lake bed. The project’s proximity to an active nuclear site demands rigorous safety, planning, and coordination standards.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Health & Safety Management Plan for the project.
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses for tunneling, shaft construction, and offshore works.
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures and legal requirements on‑site.
  • Coordinate safety training programs for all personnel and subcontractors.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Liaise with project management, engineering teams, and client representatives to ensure safety integration in planning and execution.
  • Prepare and present regular safety reports and KPIs to management.
  • Ensure emergency preparedness and response plans are in place and tested.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene, or Engineering.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Health & Safety roles on large infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in tunneling or underground works, preferably with TBM operations.
  • Experience working on projects with high‑risk environments (nuclear, offshore, or similar).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with safety management systems and incident reporting tools.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent time‑management skills.
  • High attention to detail and proactive problem‑solving ability.
  • Practical knowledge of current health and safety legislation.
