Health & Safety Coordinator – JANIN ATLAS
JANIN ATLAS, a subsidiary of VINCI Construction Grands Projets, part of the VINCI Group, is hiring a Health & Safety Coordinator for the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Program. The project involves designing and building a new deep‑water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system, including a 1.5 km tunnel, two vertical shafts, and an offshore modular intake structure.
The proximity to an active nuclear site requires rigorous safety, planning and coordination standards.
Ensure the implementation and monitoring of health and safety standards across all project phases, guaranteeing compliance with local regulations, corporate policies, and nuclear site requirements.
Concretely, Your Tasks Will Be- Develop, implement, and maintain the Health & Safety Management Plan for the project;
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses for tunneling, shaft construction, and offshore works;
- Monitor compliance with safety procedures and legal requirements on‑site;
- Coordinate safety training programs for all personnel and subcontractors;
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions;
- liaise with project management, engineering teams, and client representatives to ensure safety integration;
- Prepare and present regular safety reports and KPIs to management;
- Ensure emergency preparedness and response plans are in place and tested.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene, or Engineering;
- Minimum 6 years of experience in Health & Safety roles on large infrastructure projects;
- Proven experience in tunneling or underground works, preferably with TBM operations;
- Experience on projects with high‑risk environments (nuclear, offshore, or similar);
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
- Familiarity with safety management systems and incident reporting tools;
- Strong leadership and communication skills;
- Strong time management skills;
- High attention to detail and proactive approach to problem‑solving;
- Practical knowledge of current health and safety legislation.
