Our 2‑year Higher Level Commercial Apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to build a career in business and contract management while supporting some of the most complex engineering projects in the UK. You’ll help shape and deliver contracts that keep the Royal Navy’s fleet operational, learning how to manage commercial relationships, support bids, and contribute to the success of high‑value programmes.

Over two years you will complete four placements of around six months each, giving you experience across the business. Your work will involve:
- Supporting live contracts and engaging with customers and suppliers.
- Developing bids for new opportunities.
- Ensuring compliance with governance and assurance processes.
- Negotiating and managing terms and conditions.
- Analysing commercial risks and supporting successful contract delivery.
- Collaborating with engineers, legal advisors and project managers to shape project outcomes.
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4/C or above, including Maths and English, and 3 A‑Levels grades A‑C.
- Valid passport or provisional/full UK driving licence (required for access to Devonport Dockyard).
- Ability to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance.
- Fully funded Level 5 Operations/Departmental Manager Apprenticeship Standard through City College Plymouth.
- Support to work toward chartered status as a member of the World Commerce and Contracting Association.
