Compensation & Benefits

From £43,935 depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package including generous holiday allowance, matched pension contribution, digital GP, annual health check, employee share scheme, and professional fee payment.

Role

This full‑time, 35‑hour‑per‑week position is based at our Devonport site. You will design and configure mechanical handling systems to support some of the UK’s most critical defence infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical authority for mechanical handling systems.
  • Deliver design consultancy for new capabilities and modifications.
  • Support maintenance and configuration of existing systems.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Essential Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and substantiation of mechanical systems and components.
  • Strong understanding of engineering regulations, legislation, and standards.
  • Proficiency in hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Ability to interpret and produce mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with crane systems, lifting equipment, and mechanical handling safety.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or extensive proven experience.
  • Chartered status or working towards it is advantageous.
Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role. Further details are available at UK Security Vetting: clearance levels.
