The roleThis is a placement year role within our Maritime focused teams at Frazer‑Nash which consist of:
Naval Safety and Assurance (Bristol/Plymouth/Portsmouth)
Marine Technology (Bristol)
Naval Nuclear Assurance (Plymouth)
Each team brings together a wide range of civil and military engineering experience to which you can be an integral part of the team. At Frazer‑Nash we understand each person is unique and it is our aim to help guide you into the team and business area that is the best fit for you. You’ll be able to develop your technical knowledge throughout the Concept, Assessment, Demonstration, Manufacture, In‑service and Disposal (CADMID) phases of maritime projects. From finding the missing piece of the design puzzle, to helping manage vessel build and delivery. You will be solving real‑time in‑service issues, and helping our clients overcome ever more complex material degradation and ageing issues as vessels near the end of their design life.
While also looking to the future challenges of autonomous vessels, next generation shipping and utilisation of sustainable fuels.
Helping the Ministry of Defence understand the safety implications for personnel and marine systems when operating submarines in the extreme weather conditions in arctic waters.
Provision of safety engineering support to the next generation of future attack submarines ensuring that those onboard are safe from fire and flood.
Providing Safety Management expertise to Babcock in support of the Royal Navy’s Type 31 programme.
Conducting a hands‑on investigative study in docking and supplying service to advanced warships.
Embedding a Naval Architect in a MoD project team to help develop the early concept design for a future attack submarine.
A study to understand the effectiveness of funding for UK seafarer training for the UK's maritime regulator, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
Provision of Quality Management advice to a commercial shipping company to support their development of a prototype shaft line design for a foreign Navy.
Assessing evolving naval nuclear system designs and operating conditions to ensure the nuclear safety case remains substantiated.
Supporting the development of critical naval infrastructure and facilities.
As part of the wider business area, you will pull expertise from across the company and get a taste of what goes on in different areas of the business.
