THE EMPLOYER IS: EDGARSTOWN RESIDENTS ASSOCIATIONTo support the day-to-day operations of the Edgarstown Community Base and assist in the delivery of high-quality youth work programmes. The Youth Support Worker will help provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for children and young people, supporting them to thrive through positive engagement, activities, and developmental opportunities.
Responsibilities- Assist in planning, delivering, and evaluating youth programmes, activities, and events.
- Building positive relationships with young people, encouraging participation and personal development.
- Support young people on a one-to-one or group basis where required.
- Promote inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunities within all youth activities.
- Help identify young people’s needs and contribute to the development of services that address them.
- Contribute to the day-to-day running of the Edgarstown Community Base, ensuring it remains clean, organised, and welcoming.
- Provide general administrative support, including sign-in sheets, activity logs, incident/accident reports, and other documentation.
- Support the coordination and set-up of rooms, equipment, and resources for programmes and community services.
- Assist colleagues, volunteers, and partner organisations using the community base.
- 4 GCSE’s or equivalent.
- Experience of working with young people in a community, youth work, outreach, or support role in either a paid or voluntary capacity.
- Ability to engage confidently and safely with young people in community settings.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and listening skills.
- Understanding of issues affecting young people (e.g., mental health, peer pressure, risk taking behaviours, substance misuse).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends when required.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and young people’s welfare.
- Youth Work qualification (or working towards one).
- Experience with working with children and young people.
- First Aid, de-escalation, or mental health related training.
- Knowledge of Portadown and local community dynamics.
