Responsibilities Will Include
  • Perform hydrodynamics analyses and assessments of surface and subsurface vessels, covering manoeuvring, resistance, and seakeeping.
  • Analyse and interpret test data to develop and validate hydrodynamic predictions.
  • Hull form design and optimisation, including automating the optimisation of hull forms for hydrodynamic performance.
  • Collaborate on hull structural design and drawings for regulatory submission, liaising with structural specialists and creating detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Surface and submerged stability assessments.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (mechanical, electrical, control systems) to ensure integration of vessel systems.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, engineering drawings, technical reports, and supporting design review submissions. Ensure accurate and up‑to‑date records throughout the design and development process.
Qualifications And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, preferably Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
  • Experience with 3D and 2D CAD modelling software such as Rhino, Inventor or Solid Works.
  • Expertise in naval architecture software; knowledge of Para marine is desirable but not essential.
  • Familiarity with CFD packages and hydrodynamic analyses of AUVs, small submersibles and surface vessels.
  • Good understanding of hydrodynamics and ship stability, ideally with experience in submersibles.
  • Foundation knowledge of mechanics of materials, with preference for composites design and analysis.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards for structural design and marine systems; experience designing for class approval of composite structures against Lloyd’s or DNV‑GL is beneficial.
  • Good understanding of marine systems and ability to integrate such systems within a vessel design.
  • Experience in construction, design consultancy and/or trials of military small boats is advantageous and can be developed within the role.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and present design proposals.

Due to the nature of work at Sub Sea Craft, the selected candidate must be able to meet the security requirements of the position, including an existing right to live and work in the UK, Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), and UK National security clearance where required.
