Our client is a respected, Portsmouth-based building and maintenance contractor delivering high-quality projects across the commercial, residential, and heritage sectors. Known for their reliability, high standards, and long-term relationships, they manage a diverse range of works from small-scale maintenance to complex multi-million-pound refurbishments.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking a proactive and experienced Accounts Administrator to oversee core financial operations and help ensure smooth running of the accounts function.
Accounts Administrator Position DescriptionAs the Accounts Administrator
, you’ll report directly to the Finance Manager and take ownership of day-to-day financial tasks. You’ll also have the support of an Accounts Assistant, allowing you to focus on more senior responsibilities and help streamline financial processes.
This is a great opportunity for someone confident in managing ledgers, reconciliations, and reporting, with a solid understanding of the construction industry and experience dealing with funding lines or contract-based finance structures.
Key Responsibilities- Manage purchase and sales ledgers, including processing invoices and credit notes
- Oversee bank and supplier reconciliations
- Ensure accurate VAT returns and support with payroll processes
- Monitor and manage funding lines related to ongoing projects
- Assist with monthly reporting and year-end preparation
- Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to resolve queries
- Supervise and support the Accounts Assistant
- Maintain up-to-date and organised financial records
- Must-have experience with Xero Accounts Software
- Previous experience in the construction industry or working with contractors
- Understanding of project-based accounting and working with funding line
- Strong Excel skills (including reconciliations, pivot tables, and formulas)
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skill
- Strong communication and problem-solving ability
- A hands-on, can-do attitude and ability to work independently
- Salary of £25,000–£32,000, depending on experience
- Full-time, permanent role (Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm)
