Regulatory Services Officer

Are you interested in working in a team where the work is incredibly varied and you are involved in assisting with the delivery of regulatory actions across the entire range of the service? Dealing with a wide range of customers both internal and external, with a professional approach whilst seeking compliance.

What is the role?

You will assist with the delivering of a wide variety of statutory functions including: the assessment of air quality, port health border controls and sampling, health and safety, food safety and standards, animal welfare statutory nuisance, fair trading to name a few.

You will take the lead in carrying out visits and inspections (whether scheduled or reactive) to ensure compliance with legislative and enforcement duties (including fair trading, monitoring product safety) and provide advice around regulatory compliance. You will also participate in and investigate complaints which may involve dealing with challenging/difficult situations.

The post holder will be required to demonstrate the ability to assist and support senior officers in the triage of service enquiries, referrals and advising on service responses. Such responses are wide ranging but will include engaging with internal and external partners, members of the public and local businesses, victims and suspects of crime. When applicable, you will assist with obtaining evidence for a wide range of Trading Standards investigations and where necessary take enforcement action which could include giving evidence in court.

Who

is the person?

Ideally, you will have or be working towards one of the following:

  • A trading standards qualification delivered through the Trading Standards Qualifications Framework;
  • Level 6 Trading Standards Apprenticeship;

You will have relevant enforcement experience, which would be desirable, as well as a professional approach, experience of carrying out investigations and an understanding and knowledge of the judicial system (both criminal and civil). With a high standard of communication skills, verbal and written and good investigatory skills. You will have an understanding of a range of enforcement sanctions and a high level of IT literacy.

A full, valid driving licence or the ability to travel during the course of work when necessary is desirable. You will be able to work flexibly as necessary, delivering out of hours services demand and participation in service rotas/shift work.
