Healthcare Nursing, Patient Care Technician
The Lighthouse Group Practice is seeking a Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our existing team, to support the delivery ofhigh-quality patient care within the GP practice.
Working under the supervision of registered nurses and GPs, the post holder will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical duties, contributing to effective, safe, and patient-centred services in a busy inner-city primary care setting.
Main duties of the jobThe role involves delivering a range of routine clinical procedures in line with training and competency, including patient observations, health checks and phlebotomy. The post holder will support chronic disease management clinics, administer vaccinations where authorised, and assist with wound care under supervision.
Responsibilities also include maintaining clinical rooms to infection prevention and control standards and accurately recording all clinical observations and interventions on the practice clinical system.

Key Responsibilities / Duties
Clinical Responsibilities
- Undertake routine clinical procedures following appropriate training and competency assessment, including:
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Height, weight, BMI, and waist measurements
- Urinalysis
- ECG recording
- New patient health checks
- NHS Health Checks
- Support chronic disease management clinics (e.g. diabetes, asthma, COPD) as directed
- Administer vaccinations and injections where trained, competent, and authorised
- Perform wound care and dressings under appropriate supervision
- Prepare, clean, and maintain clinical rooms in line with infection prevention and control policies
- Accurately record clinical observations and interventions on the practice clinical system
Patient Care and Support
- Provide a courteous, welcoming, and non-judgemental service to all patients
- Support chronic disease management clinics (e.g. diabetes, asthma, COPD) as directed
- Promote health education and healthy lifestyle choices where appropriate
- Maintain patient dignity, confidentiality, consent, and safeguarding at all times
Administrative and Practice Support
- Assist with stock control, equipment checks, and ordering of clinical supplies
- Support patient recall systems, audits, and health promotion activities
- Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, reception staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team
- Contribute to service improvement and quality initiatives within the practice
- Previous experience in a healthcare or GP practice setting
- Skilled in routine clinical procedures, patient care, and record-keeping
- Experience supporting chronic disease clinics, vaccinations, or wound care is highly desirable
- Care Certificate or equivalent healthcare qualification
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Willingness to undertake further training and competency assessments
- NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or Healthcare Support
- Immunisation and vaccination training
