Senior Design Engineer - Principle Engineer

Overview

Volker Stevin is part of the Volker Wessels UK Group, an industry-leading civil engineering business delivering complex solutions across maritime, flood risk management, defence, energy, water and regeneration sectors. The group collaborates with its business units to provide an integrated, multidisciplinary service. The role is based in Preston, within the Design team, and involves supporting tendering and construction processes.

• Design responsibilities: design and detailing of temporary and permanent works in accordance with recognised standards and in a variety of structural forms. Produce design calculations, drawings/sketches, design risk assessments, technical reports, and check internal and external design packages. Take final approval of design deliverables prior to issue.
• Provision of general engineering support: may involve providing advice, producing technical notes for circulation at business level, attending meetings (internal and external), visiting sites, carrying out inspections, and liaising with Project Teams and Consultants.
• Draughting: use CAD software such as AutoCAD and Sketch Up. Produce tender, contract or as-built drawings (2D and 3D as appropriate).
• Coordination of consultants: liaison between project teams and external consultants, monitoring progress and reviewing information received.
• Management of work programme: attend weekly resource allocation meetings and provide updates; monitor progress against programme.
• Department development: act as a mentor to colleagues training towards professional qualification and contribute to continuous improvement of the department.
• Project interaction: act as single point of contact for allocated projects; maintain awareness of project programmes and commercial arrangements within own area of responsibility.

• Relevant Engineering Degree
• Chartered / Incorporated status with the ICE, IStruct
  
  E or other relevant professional body.
• Minimum 5 years industry experience
