Operations Manager

Tom Martin & Company is a privately‑owned long‑established metal trading company, founded in 1948. We operate from two sites based in Preston and also have sites in Manchester and Poland. We specialise in handling, processing and trading non‑ferrous waste metals produced across several manufacturing sectors. We are ISO 9001 & 50001 accredited and working towards ISO 14001.

Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for the daily running of the two Preston sites. You will ensure smooth operation of all aspects of work, liaising with site supervisors and senior managers to meet targets. You must adapt to situations as they arise, have excellent communication skills and work with a variety of people at all levels. You will work as part of a larger team but independently to meet daily goals, operating on both a strategic level and as a hands‑on manager reacting to live issues.

• Effective management of multiple sites
• Allocation of labour and resources based on daily targets/goals
• Managing a team of supervisors and operatives across a three‑shift system
• Liaising with domestic and deep‑sea transport staff to ensure efficient arrival and departure of materials
• Liaising with the health, safety and compliance manager to ensure sites are fully compliant and operating within license conditions
• Liaising with the maintenance manager to ensure all plant and equipment is fit for purpose and to manage site infrastructure projects
• Monthly physical stock audit

• Excellent communicator
• Willingness to work toward achieving WAMITAB MROC1 qualification
• Clear a full CRB check
• Flexible attitude and ability to adapt to changing priorities
• Experience in a recycling or manufacturing environment preferable, not essential
